How Fair Squares works
A proposed funding process, from a home submitted for review to shared investment and long-term management. The prototype demonstrates the funding mechanics; a local pilot must test the real-world terms.
Housing fund
Verified members pool money to help finance homes. Withdrawal depends on available capital and the fund’s rules; it is not guaranteed instant access.
Submit a home
Property owners submit a valuation and building assessment. Reviewers check land and ownership terms, local housing needs, repairs and energy performance alongside the purchase cost.
Assessment & governance
The proposed process combines council review with an eligible-member vote before funding. Resident participation needs separate pilot rules.
Housing council review
Reviewers should assess price, housing need, building condition and the full budget. The prototype records their assessment.
Investor vote
Eligible members vote on the reviewed funding proposal.
Fund approved homes
Approved homes receive funding when capital is available. Members hold shares in the fund, rather than direct ownership of a particular home.
Manage homes with residents
A housing provider would manage homes and tenant applications. The pilot must agree eligibility, secure tenancy terms, rent reviews, maintenance funding and residents’ role in decisions.

Digital records track fund rules and decisions. They do not replace legal agreements, housing management or regulatory review.

Members verify their eligibility. Pilot partners must establish the checks required by local law.
Privacy-centric by design
The prototype explores private eligibility and financial records. Its server-managed test accounts are not a production privacy guarantee.
